About R J Hillhouse

  • Dr. Hillhouse has run Cuban rum between East and West Berlin, smuggled jewels from the Soviet Union and slipped through some of the world’s tightest borders. From Uzbekistan to Romania, she's been followed, held at gunpoint and interrogated. Foreign governments and others have pitched her for recruitment as a spy. (They failed.)

A former professor and Fulbright fellow, Dr. Hillhouse earned her Ph.D. in political science at the University of Michigan. Her latest novel, OUTSOURCED (Forge Books) is about the turf wars between the Pentagon and the CIA and the privatization of national security.

Dr. Hillhouse is an expert on national security outsourcing. Her controversial work has twice elicited a formal response by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence--the only times that office has ever publicly responded to the writings of a private citizen.

She is a regular media guest and available for interviews.

« Blackwater's Corporate Image Loses Its Innocence | Main | Why Does Anyone Trust the Ministry of Interior on Blackwater? »

October 24, 2007

"t doesn't seem the best of ideas to rush investigators into a hot zone where teams have just found the need to use weapons."

That especially just kills me:

"Quick! We have to investigate a Blackwater shooting at intersection Tango 44!"

"That sector is hot, you'll need an escort with a serious pair. Better call Blackwater."

The following may amuse:

"An individual employed by the Pinkerton Detective Agency, or similar organization, may not be employed by the Government of the United States or the government of the District of Columbia."

Oh no! I'm going to miss your visit to Austin on November 1. I'll be at working the late shift on my new job. Are you appearing anywhere informally that day?

Just got the word from Hollywood: Denzel has been signed to do a sequal to "The Kingdom" on Go Teams. Working title: "Man Under Fire". Synopsis: Denzel's Go Team predictably walks into deep shit investigating a PSD shoot first escalation. Blackwater support team minigunner Jesse "The Body" Ventura, recreating his character "Blain" from "Predator" who has now retired from Special Forces and signed on with Blackwater, deploys as a one man response with his manportable minigun and teaches the former SEALs that "if you have enough spray, you don't have to pray." Anyone wanna get a piece of this?

To grade on the curve implies that other intelligence/security agencies/organizations were also considered and graded to establish the curve! If the CIA director himself was doing the grading then no wonder the CIA got an A plus! Just what do you expect? Through my nearly 30 years in the intelligence business in association with several different intelligence agencies I have yet to find one that deserved an A plus, even on the curve!

  • A tip of the hat to investigative journalist Tim Shorrock who inspired the name of this blog with his path-breaking 2005 article, "The Spy Who Billed Me."

Shorrock has a dedicated web page on outsourcing in intel. It links to many of his articles which are must-reads for anyone interested in the privatization of intelligence.
