Nauticus Robotics, a leading developer of autonomous robots using artificial intelligence for data collection and intervention services for the ocean economies, has announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MMA Offshore. MMA Offshore is a global provider of high-specification vessels and comprehensive marine and subsea services. The MOU aims to develop an integrated service offering for cost-efficient and environmentally friendly maintenance of subsea infrastructures in the Asia-Pacific region.
Nauticus Robotics’ Aquanaut robot, with its machine intelligence and supervised autonomy capabilities, enables the use of smaller service vessels that were not previously utilized for inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) activities. By combining the capabilities of Nauticus and MMA Offshore, a more economical solution can be provided compared to conventional methods.
This partnership with MMA Offshore is part of Nauticus Robotics’ strategic global expansion, following its recent entry into European markets and the deployment of its Aquanaut robot in Brazil to service Petrobras assets. The company previously announced the opening of operating bases in Stavanger, Norway, and Aberdeen, Scotland.
Nicolaus Radford, the founder and CEO of Nauticus, sees the MOU as a significant move to disrupt the autonomous subsea robotics industry and solidify the company’s position as the industry leader. Tom Radic, Executive General Manager Subsea at MMA Offshore, stated that the partnership will provide clients with access to the latest autonomous and machine learning technology to meet their subsea requirements.
Nauticus Robotics operates on a Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) business model, delivering robotic systems and services to commercial and government customers. Their approach to ocean robotics includes retrofitting/upgrading legacy systems and developing products for third-party vehicle platforms. By providing data collection, analytics, and subsea manipulation capabilities, Nauticus aims to support asset maintenance while reducing operational footprint, cost, and greenhouse gas emissions, ultimately improving offshore health, safety, and environmental exposure.
