ABB, a leading robotics and automation company, has introduced two new variants of its GoFa collaborative robot, the GoFa 10 and GoFa 12. These new cobots offer companies more opportunities to optimize their operations through automation, addressing challenges related to skills and labor shortages while improving safety and productivity.
With the ability to handle payloads of up to 10 and 12 kilograms respectively, the GoFa 10 and GoFa 12 provide market-leading repeatability. This allows them to perform a wider range of tasks in close collaboration with factory workers.
One of the main advantages of these new variants is their straightforward programming and rapid integration into production environments. This makes them accessible to first-time users, educators, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Both the GoFa 10 and GoFa 12 boast impressive tool center point (TCP) speeds of up to two meters per second, with a 0.02-millimeter repeatability. This represents a twofold improvement over comparable solutions. Additionally, they are IP67-certified, protecting them against moisture and dust ingress.
These cobots are suitable for a variety of industrial applications, including machine tending, welding, parts handling, polishing, and assembly. The GoFa 10, with its 1.62-meter reach, is particularly well-suited for palletizing applications.
The GoFa 10 and GoFa 12 cobots are designed to lower barriers to automation for first-time users and SMEs. They are easy to program and deploy, and ABB’s Wizard easy programming software allows even non-specialists to automate their applications without the need for complex programming code.
These new variants are powered by ABB’s OmniCore controller, which combines advanced motion control technologies and intelligent torque and position sensors. This ensures smooth and precise movements, enabling high precision surface finishing, fastening, assembly, and testing tasks.
In line with the company’s commitment to sustainability, the GoFa 10 and GoFa 12 cobots feature energy saving capabilities such as power re-generation and brake energy recovery, reducing power requirements by up to 20 percent.
Furthermore, ABB’s recent launch of its ABB Robotics Ecosystem program allows users to leverage innovations from across the growing ABB Robotics ecosystem. This program brings together third-party accessories compatible with the GoFa cobots, including grippers, cameras, and customized software.
With the introduction of the GoFa 10 and GoFa 12 cobots, ABB continues to expand its cobot portfolio and cater to the increasing demand for safe and easy-to-use automation solutions in various industrial applications.
