A New Era for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics: Shaping the Future

Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are entering an exciting phase of development, with companies making significant progress and major announcements. To gain insights into the latest advancements, I spoke with Zeno Mercer, Senior Research Analyst at VettaFi.

Elon Musk, renowned entrepreneur and innovator, recently unveiled his own AI bot called “Grok” as a rival to ChatGPT. While Musk claims superiority, initial demos have been underwhelming. However, the competition between Grok and existing AI models like ChatGPT and Bard will push the boundaries of AI technology.

Regarding the winners in the AI race, OpenAI stands out, pushing the limits of AI development for the developer ecosystem and the public. With huge investments pouring in, OpenAI’s dominance in the field seems inevitable. Other contenders backed by industry giants like Alphabet and Amazon, such as Anthropic, also show promise. The outcome of this race remains uncertain, as companies strive to become the user experience (UX) or operating system (OS) of the future.

In terms of robotics, we are witnessing a pivotal moment. The robotics industry had a slower year due to various factors, but we anticipate a positive shift with the rebound of the Chinese market, the implementation of the CHIPS Act, and the demand for robotics in energy transition and infrastructure development.

AI and robotics are converging to unlock tremendous potential. Collaborations like NVIDIA’s Eureka and Deepmind with Google’s RT-X project are accelerating advancements in robot training and capabilities. As robots become more skilled and versatile, their value and application across industries will increase, making them safer and more useful in various environments.

ROBO Global, a prominent player in the robotics and automation space, offers three VettaFi indexes tracked by ETFs. The ROBO Global Robotics and Automation Index focuses on physical creation and movement in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare. This index capitalizes on the tangible, “atom” aspects of technology that reshape industries.

As we move forward, the growth of AI and robotics will bring about significant changes, revolutionizing various sectors and creating new opportunities. The key lies in monitoring and explainability, and regulators worldwide are beginning to recognize these aspects.
