Estonian Firm Milrem Robotics Develops New Weapon System

Estonian company Milrem Robotics has unveiled a new weapon system, an upgraded version of its unmanned ground vehicle equipped with a loitering ammunition launcher. This development comes as the war in Ukraine emphasizes the need for innovative technologies.

Gert Hankewitz, the director of marketing and export control at Milrem Robotics, stated at the DSEI trade show in London that the new product is built on the company’s flagship tracked platform and aims to secure new export orders. While the original THeMIS variant was designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, the new vehicle is specifically optimized for combat. Hankewitz explained that the rising interest in loitering ammunition systems, driven by the conflict in Ukraine, motivated the development of this solution.

Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS vehicles are already in use in several countries, including Australia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, the UK, Ukraine, and the United States. With the introduction of the upgraded system, the company seeks to expand its international presence.

Established in 2013 and headquartered in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, Milrem Robotics is majority-owned by the Emirati holding company Edge Group.
