South Korean IT solutions provider LG CNS has partnered with Chinese robotics firm XYZ Robotics to undertake joint projects in domestic e-commerce logistics centers. In a memorandum of understanding, the two companies agreed to integrate XYZ Robotics’ AI-powered robot solutions into LG’s robotic integrated operations platform. All robot solutions offered through the platform will be provided as a robot-as-a-service model, allowing clients to pay for usage.
XYZ Robotics brings advanced technology in the field of three-dimensional vision, enabling robots to perceive their surroundings, and has expertise in designing and manufacturing grippers, or robot hands. LG CNS introduced its operation platform in July, incorporating real-time analysis of customer orders using AI and big data technologies. The platform’s warehouse execution system optimizes product classification and movement sequences, while the warehouse control system closely monitors and analyzes robots.
The partnership has already launched its first project by deploying platform palletizing and depalletizing robots at logistics centers in South Korea. Palletizing robots can transfer, sort, and stack boxes or items onto a pallet, while depalletizing robots unload materials from pallets.
According to Lee Jun-ho, the head of the smart logistics division at LG CNS, the logistics automation market has entered the era of robot transformation, where robots are effectively utilized in every aspect. In addition to this collaboration, LG CNS is conducting a proof-of-concept project to convert a former gas station into a micro fulfillment center using its robot integrated operations platform and the Ieum 5G network.
The Ieum 5G network is provided by a company that builds its own 5G networks and offers services with government permission, separate from the three main telecommunication firms in South Korea.
