The Jamaica national robotics team is gearing up for the 2023 FIRST Global Challenge robotics competition, which will take place in Singapore from October 7 to 10. The team, comprised of motivated and creative high school students, has been honing their coding and engineering skills with the guidance of their coaches in preparation for this prestigious event.
This year’s competition, called Hydrogen Horizons, focuses on promoting clean energy solutions and highlighting the collaboration needed to develop sustainable energy sources. In the game, teams of three national teams form alliances and work together to create renewable energy networks. The robots are tasked with producing hydrogen and converting it into usable energy within a simulated environment.
Team Jamaica is grateful for the opportunity to participate in this competition and recognizes the positive impact it has had on their high school robotics programs. They have used this platform not only to enhance their own skills but also to give back to their communities. The team has conducted interactive sessions with students at the Young Scholars Education Coding and Robotics Camp, aiming to expand access to STEM opportunities in Jamaica.
The Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations from New York has been a consistent supporter and sponsor of the program since 2017. Their contribution has been instrumental in ensuring the success and growth of the Jamaica national robotics team.
The team is excited to represent their country at the FIRST Global Challenge and showcase the talent and determination of Jamaican students in the field of robotics. They are committed to making a positive impact and contributing to the development of sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.
