    New Technologies: Equipping Students for the Future

    Awantipora, Nov 20: In today’s rapidly evolving world, it has become imperative for educational institutions to equip students with the latest technological skills. This was emphasized by Vice Chancellor Prof Shakil A Romshoo of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) during the inauguration of a two-day workshop on “Embedded Systems and Robotics” organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IUST, in collaboration with e-Yantra, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

    The workshop, attended by principals, deans, and faculty members from various colleges and institutions, aimed to promote the adoption of new technologies and their impact on different sectors. Prof Romshoo highlighted the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest technological advancements, stating that they are expected to disrupt the job market. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of educational institutions to prepare students for these changes and support them in meeting industry requirements. The e-Yantra programme was recognized as an ideal platform to achieve this goal.

    During the event, Prof Kavi Arya from IIT Bombay discussed how technology can enhance the quality of Kashmiri products, such as horticulture and handicrafts, making them more competitive in the international market. He also touched upon the impact of artificial intelligence on teaching jobs and encouraged educators to foster entrepreneurial mindsets among engineering students.

    Dean Academic Affairs, Prof A H Moon, highlighted IUST’s recent achievement of 4-star accreditation, positioning the university among the top 9 institutes in India for innovation and entrepreneurship. He emphasized the positive impact of robotics on sectors like horticulture, handicrafts, and tourism in J&K.

    The workshop concluded with expressions of gratitude from Dr Rumaan Bashir and Sajaad Ahmed Lone, who extended thanks to all participants, speakers, and collaborators.
