Reliable Robotics Welcomes New Radar Design Lead to Advance Airspace Integration Solution

Mountain View, Calif., October 27, 2023 – Reliable Robotics, a renowned autonomous aircraft systems leader, is making significant strides in its pursuit of safe and efficient integration of remotely piloted aircraft into the National Airspace System (NAS). Today, the company announced the addition of Marc Pos, a seasoned radar design expert, to its team. Pos will take on the position of Senior Fellow and will focus on the critical task of developing and certifying Detect and Avoid (DAA) systems capable of detecting and tracking all airspace users, regardless of whether they are equipped with transponders.

The integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the NAS requires a comprehensive set of interdependent subsystems, such as DAA systems, command and control (C2) links, and control stations. These subsystems, along with their functions and capabilities, collectively form an end-to-end, certifiable solution that allows both new and existing aircraft to be remotely piloted.

Pos, a highly-experienced radar designer with close to 30 years of expertise, will join Brandon Suarez, VP of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration at Reliable Robotics, in driving the development and certification of the company’s Airspace Integration Solution. Pos brings a wealth of knowledge from his previous role as a Radar System Fellow at Honeywell, where he led cross-disciplinary teams in developing advanced radar systems for various applications.

The addition of radar to the Reliable Robotics sensor suite holds immense significance. Radar is the only all-weather, non-cooperative sensor for DAA, and no existing airborne radar currently satisfies the size, weight, power, and cost requirements for commercial aircraft. By incorporating radar capabilities, Reliable Robotics aims to provide a robust and certifiable solution for Detect and Avoid (DAA) functionality.
