Zeta Surgical Receives FDA Clearance for Mixed Reality Navigation System

Zeta Surgical, a surgical robotics and mixed reality company, has announced that its mixed reality surgical navigation system, the Zeta Cranial Navigation System, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This system provides neurosurgeons with precise “GPS-like” guidance in real time with millimetric accuracy.

The Zeta Cranial Navigation System utilizes a computer vision engine that constantly registers multiple times per second, taking into account any patient movement to ensure maintained accuracy. This technology eliminates the need for general anesthesia and rigid skull immobilization, allowing for flexibility in performing surgeries both inside and outside the operating room.

Dr. William Gormley, Chief Medical Officer of Zeta Surgical and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, expressed his excitement about the FDA clearance, stating that it signifies the next generation of innovation in neurosurgery. The Zeta Navigation system has the potential to revolutionize the way neurosurgery is performed, expanding the possibilities for where surgeries can take place and increasing accessibility to patients worldwide.

Dr. Kyle Wu, Director of Neurosurgical Innovation at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, praised Zeta Surgical’s platform technology for improving existing techniques and workflows while also enabling novel therapies. This technology has the potential to expand the scope of treatment for neurologic diseases.

In addition to complex cranial surgeries, the Zeta platform can also be utilized for routine cranial surgeries in lower cost settings outside of a traditional operating room, without the need for general anesthesia. This capability has the potential to improve both the quality of care and reduce costs for hospital systems.

Zeta Surgical is a digital surgery company that aims to enhance the accuracy, safety, and accessibility of image-guided procedures. By leveraging cutting-edge computer vision and artificial intelligence, their navigation and robotics platform enables surgical guidance directly at the point-of-care, improving care in emergency settings, interventional medicine, and drug delivery.

This FDA clearance marks an important milestone for Zeta Surgical as they continue to advance the field of neurosurgery and make surgical interventions more precise and accessible.
